Embryotic relationship between Municipality and the Tourism Industry
Victoria Falls Municipality as a lower entity of government has played a very significant role in the development and emancipation of the tourism sector in the resort town.
The interdependency on each other is like mother to child bond, where Council creates a conducive environment for tourism to ensure that Victoria Falls remains a unique natural and competitive world class tourist destination.
The tourism sector is the biggest employer in town and biggest income generator for council as it provides a wide revenue base. The sector ranges from hoteliers the National parks, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, tour operators to food outlet dealers among others. All these stakeholders play a very crucial role in the creation of a viable tourism environment.
Victoria Falls today is one of the Seven Wonders of the World not only because of its tantalising waterfalls but also because of its friendly and hospitable residents and the unconditional support from the Government of Zimbabwe. During the tour by former FIFA President Sepp Blatter with the World Cup Trophy in Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Tourism and Hospitality Industrial Minister Engineer Walter Mzembi described the Victoria Falls as a beautiful woman whose features bear the front and back of the body.
In August2013 the town co-hosted the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly which attracted world leaders from the globe. The Victoria Falls Municipality and its stakeholders worked tirelessly for the success of the event in terms of hospitality and readiness on the ground.
Last year council offered discounts to ratepayers a promotion which ran from October to December. The promotion allowed those who owed council to be awarded 25% discount while those who were up to date saw themselves basking in a 50% discount, respectively. This development was done to ensure that the residents began the New Year off debts.
